I still can't fully grasp that Unit 2 is about to come to an end. This unit flew by rather quickly. Here's what happened this week:
- In 402 Journeys, we read Lesson 25 "The Fun They Had" in the hardcover book. This story talked about how 'school' was like far into the future where each student had a mechanical teacher Even though it was high-tech and futuristic, there were several downsides. For example, the mechanical teacher would malfunction easily, which would require a country inspector to fix its bugs. Second, students had to memorize a punch code to write their homework and last but not least, each student would be isolated and wouldn't have any friends. After reading the story, I had students do an activity that required them to design a smart app that would help facilitate and innovate learning.
- In 403 Journeys, we read about the Kirk family in the softcover book. The setting was in year 3010 where families lived in space station, traveled around by rocket, and had robots that cleaned for them. The story taught us that no matter how advanced the technology and no matter how busy you are, family takes priority. All students seemed to agree with that as well. Afterwards, I also had them do an activity that required them to design a smart app that would help facilitate and innovate learning.
- In creative writing, I had students pick 1 paragraph from one of their previous fictional narratives to re-write. I asked students to improve the paragraph by adding more adverbs, adjectives, and dialogue to enliven the story even more.
- In grammar, we finished Unit 18 about time, place, and movement prepositions, which was mostly a review for many. We also played a fun game of Simon says to review for the quiz.
- In math, we learned about dividing by changing compound units to a smaller unit. Since they are currently learning about this in their Chinese Math classes, they already knew how to solve most problems.
- In science, we reviewed Soil and other earth materials. There are several terms in this unit, so please start reviewing!
That's it for this week! I want to thank you all for bringing so much fun and joy into the classroom every day. I will be posting study materials for the Unit 2 Exam soon. In the meantime, here is next week's printout:
Happy studying, everyone!
Ms. Wendy
