Merry, Merry Christmas! I want to thank the students who still put in their 100% into their classes and assignments even though it's Christmas week. You truly are an autonomous learner. Anyways, here are this week's highlights. Please enjoy :)
- In Reading Class, both 402 and 403 students read Lesson 15 in the SC Journeys book about frogs. We've learned about 2 particular species of frogs, which are wood frog and bull frogs. Do you remember which of the frog's croak resembles a foghorn? That's right! A bull frog sounds like a foghorn. We've also learned that wood frogs are delicate creatures, which means that we must take extra measures to protect and conserve the wetlands. Many students seemed to be intrigued about frogs in class.
- In Grammar, we learned Unit 11 about the 'Present Simple Tense.' Please, please, please remember that WE DON'T ADD -ING TO VERBS IN THE PRESENT SIMPLE TENSE. The present simple tense is specifically used to talk about habits and actions that we do regularly. Therefore, if you see adverbs of frequency such as 'never, rarely, sometimes, often, usually, and always,' ALWAYS use the present simple tense! This is a trick for you to use in your exams next week!
- In Math, we learned about solving word problems. There are 4 steps to problem solving. First, you must thoroughly understand the problem. For example, what's happening in the problem? What do the numbers in the problem represent? Second, you must plan what to do. Are you going to multiply or divide first? Are you going to add or subtract first? Why? Third, you have to work out the answer. Execute your plan. Lastly, you must check your answer(s).
- We didn't get a chance to learn science this week because of the Fire Department. However, we will be reviewing science next Monday before we have exams.
Because the students had to take lessons with the Fire Department all morning on Friday this week, as well as having the Christmas Party, our class schedule was a little tighter than usual, which is why we took our spelling and grammar quiz on Thursday instead of Friday. I want to thank all students who really hustled through with me and tried your best to learn. I really appreciate that! Anyways, that's a wrap for this week! I really can't believe that our Unit 3 Exams are coming up next week. Please rest well and study hard!
Best,
Ms. Wendy
