Week 15 Highlights

Dear beloved Parents and Students,

Happy Friday! Here are this week's highlights:

  • In reading, my 402 class read 'The Earth Dragon Awakes' from the Hard Cover book. Can you guess that the story is about? ..... yes! Earthquakes! It is about the violent earthquake that happened in San Francisco in 1906. The author used many similes in the story in order to enhance the descriptive visualization for the reader. My 402 students are starting to understand more about the purpose of similes. As for my 403 class, they learned more about Earth's land forms and the science behind the formation of mountains and earthquakes.
  • In Grammar, we continued to learn about 'imperatives.' It is imperative that all of you only use the infinitive when using imperatives! Did that confuse you? Well, I hope you know what imperative and infinitive means! (Hint: 'Sit properly' is an example of an imperative) I also had students write a 'Recipe for a Successful Student' by using imperatives. Some ingredients include brains, eyes, and even an avocado!
  • In Math, we continued to learn about improper fractions and mixed numbers. Many students told me that they've already learned about this in their Chinese Math Class so it's not too challenging. However, when something isn't too challenging, many tend to make more silly mistakes, so, watch out!
  • In Science, we learned about light, heat, and sound energy. It will get even more interesting next week as we will learn about kinetic and potential energy. Stay tuned!
  • As for writing, every student wrote a full essay about why they think we should have shorter school days/ why Lih-Jen shouldn't have a dress code. I'm surprised to find out that many think that the uniforms make them so itchy that it's preventing them from concentrating in class! Are you (students) exaggerating? Hmm....
  • Finally, I would like to give a shout out to Koki and Henry for giving such marvelous Christmas speeches in our Thursday Assembly. Henry shared that he really wants a Krito Costume for Christmas. It's my first time learning about Krito, who is kind of like a gamer! As for Koki, he shared that he wishes to have an arm scratcher for Christmas because when he broke his arm, he couldn't scratch it for 1 month due to his cast! I know it's terrifying to give a speech in front of others but both of you did superb. I'm so proud of you two!
Well, that's a wrap for another week. I seriously can't believe that 2020 is right around the corner. Let's end this year strong together. The weather's also getting much cooler so stay warm, everyone!

Best,
Ms. Wendy
